1. Give detailed examples of how the advert represents the Paralympians as powerful and positive characters. Make sure you use media language within your analysis.
The advert presents the Paralympians as strong and powerful characters as they are able to perform sporting competitions on a high level. It has changed the image of disabled people as we see them as brave and heroic individuals, despite their struggles in life, the advert has enhanced their capabilities, showing the audience that they are fighters. The position of the camera is an important factor as it allows the audience to grasp it from their perspective. Low angle shots and close up shots are commonly used to present power and dominance towards the paralympians, implying that they are people to look up too.

2. Describe the effect the sound editing might have on the audience.
The Sound throughout the advert is very moving and inspirational. At first the music is low key and soft until it reaches 0:17 seconds, the tempo instantly changes and the music accelerates. This upbeat music reflects back on the characters as it moves accordingly with their body language, creating a sense of pride and superiority. Background sounds of cheering and clapping are apparent all the way through the advert which gives it a sense of reality and making the audience feel as if they are part of the video.

3. How is the core message of the advert anchored throughout the advert?
The core message of this advert has been genuinely crafted to present the paralympians as “Super humans.” They have been recognized as tough and dominant individuals, representing themselves but more importantly representing disabled people all around the world. Their remarkable ability to excel in sports such as swimming, basketball and weightlifting just like other abled athletes, no matter how agonizing their condition is.

4. How does this representation of disabled people compare with other representations that you know?
Normally disabled people come across as weak and fragile individuals; however this adverts demonstrates the complete opposite. It justifies how tough and talented they really are, it takes great motivation physically and mentally to thrive in a highly skilled sport. This representation of disabled people sets a respectable image towards them, making the audience value their strengths and look up at them as heroes.

5. Do you think that this an effective advert? Justify your point of view with examples and explanation.
Yes I do think this is an effective advert. It has given a great platform to the paralympians, allowing them to thrive and show off their amazing talent. The advert has influenced its viewers to watch them and believe in them through their strengths, its truly remarkable how great power can come within disabled people. On the downside, it reveals how one Olympian lost both his legs in a car crash, and still continues to train and compete. That did not stop him from succeeding; in fact it made him stronger. Furthermore, in 0:51 you see a short but significant glimpse of a man in a wheelchair and next to him, a wrecked car. This daunting image justifies the whole advert as it states that he is a hero and a fighter.

The lighting in this trailer starts out high key, then goes darker and dramatic. The camera angles are very quick and switch from eye-level to high angle to create a dramatic effect by making the subject appear to be less powerful and less significant. There are a lot of close up shots, wide shots and over the shoulder shots. Set in the late 1920’s, the location and surrounding in the trailer can relate back to the characters as their style in clothes are dark, dull and old style.

There are moments of tension between the characters when close up shots of the characters are shown in low key lighting, to create added suspense. The severe setting and the fact that its night-time, adds to the suspense and drama to the scene. Additionally, music is a main factor of building suspense, which is evident throughout the trailer as you can identify the sudden change in tune.

The genre of this trailer is action, western, crime, and fiction. The trailer is primarily targeted at older people, as it contains scenes of violence and crime. The fact that this movie is based on a true story attracts a much wider audience, as they would be interested in watching and wanting to know the full story.
